As anyone who has ever gone camping or been the scouts knows, there is one indispensible item you never leave home without—the Swiss Army knife. Most models come with scissors, a pair of tweezers, a magnifying glass and maybe even a standard screwdriver. They’re big, they’re red, and it’s often said they can save your life.
As technology has improved, however, there are much more modern versions of the Swiss Army knife. And believe it or not most of them can be found on your phone. We are talking of course about mobile apps. If you have somehow missed it, an app is really nothing more than a mini computer program that can be downloaded on the internet directly to your mobile device, often for a nominal fee.
So, are mobile apps the next pocket knife ? Yes and no. Yes, because they are an indispensible item, and no, because they’re arguably already more popular than pocket knives ever were. In fact, the largest apps provider in the world, Apple, recently announced that users had downloaded an amazing 2 billion apps from their site in just two years. What are the best apps? Well, it really does depend what you need them for. For instance, if you find yourself lost in the woods, apps can help you find your way back home. There apps that use GPS to tell you exactly where you are at any given time and even provide detailed directions to the nearest road.
There are also apps that let users scan files, get stock quotes, and even send important documents to clients. These apps are often referred to as office apps, and they have become as indispensible to businessman as compasses and pocket knives are for campers.
